Winship Cancer Institute’s Joan Giblin, MSN, FNP-BC, AOCN, Wins First Place for Poster at the AONN+ Annual Conference

ORLANDO – Joan Giblin, MSN, FNP-BC, AOCN, a nurse practitioner and survivorship program director at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, recently won first place in the Patient Education category for her poster presentation at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators’ (AONN+) annual conference in Orlando. The subject of her poster was “Changes in Physical Activity Among Breast Cancer Patients Enrolled in a YMCA Program.”

The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is the largest national specialty organization dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life by defining, enhancing, and promoting the role of oncology nurse and patient navigators. The organization, which has more than 5,000 members, was founded in 2009 to provide a network for all professionals involved and interested in patient navigation and survivorship care services in order to better manage the complexities of the cancer treatment process.

Sharon Gentry, MSN, RN, HON-ONN-CG, AOCN, recently traveled to Philadelphia to represent AONN+ at the Access USA Conference, specifically for Patient Assistance & Access Programs. Here, she took part in the highly popular panel, “The Medicare Patient Experience: Affordability, Access, and the State of Healthcare Today,” which focused on financial burdens that patients with chronic illnesses face and why the work to improve access is far from finished.
