The Dr. Harold Freeman One Team Award honors navigators who embody the transformative vision Dr. Freeman established in 1990. Inspired by his leadership of the American Cancer Society's National Hearings on Cancer in the Poor in 1989 and his extensive experience treating patients with breast cancer in Harlem, New York, Dr. Freeman pioneered patient navigation to address the substantial barriers, financial burdens, disproportionate suffering, and culturally insensitive education programs facing vulnerable populations.
